#Design Thinking

Sciences meets Entrepreneurship

Research meets entrepreneurial spirit: Together with the Falling Walls Foundation, we have been supporting young scientists for four years in turning their ideas into start-ups and making their findings available to society.

The problem

What do the mp3 file, the gigabyte hard disk and the eye laser have in common? All three have their origins in German scientific institutes. But many doctoral students and post-docs don’t even know how they can make their scientific results useful for society. They hardly know any career paths beyond a research career.

The goal

To encourage young scientists to reflect and open up career paths. To provide them with methods and contacts so that they can take the leap into the start-up world.

The implementation

Together with the Falling Walls Foundation, INNOKI and the partner agency Berliner Ideenlabor designed the Young Entrepreneurs in Science program. A series of workshops and webinars explicitly aimed at doctoral students and post-docs. In addition to Design Thinking, the business model canvas, pitch training and the lean startup methodology, participants get to know role models and business partners who share their start-up and innovation experiences with them. We have been moderating the Young Entrepreneurs in science workshops and webinars for years: Long enough to observe many participants founding their start-ups or patenting their products. We are thrilled!
